First look at Saw maze coming to Six Flags Fright Fest

Fright Fest Extreme 2024 will run on select Thursday through Sunday nights from Saturday, Sept. 7 through Nov. 3 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.

Magic Mountain is stealing a page from Universal’s playbook this Halloween by rolling out several haunted mazes based on major Hollywood horror movie franchises — long the domain of Universal’s Horror Nights.

In addition to the Saw maze, Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest will feature haunted mazes based on the Stranger Things, Trick ‘r Treat, Army of the Dead and Conjuring horror franchises.

The $1 billion Saw franchise is helmed by acclaimed horror filmmaker James Wan — who is also behind the Insidious and Conjuring film franchises.

The 10 Saw movies follow the bloody trail of fictional serial killer John “Jigsaw” Kramer who sets physical and psychological torture traps that he calls tests or games.

In the Magic Mountain maze, Fright Fest visitors will find themselves at the mercy of Jigsaw’s twisted mind as they come face to face with a series of ingenious and terrifying contraptions set by the serial killer.

Concept art of the Saw maze shows an entry facade designed to look like the Gideon Meat Packing plant with the distinctive red spirals from the film franchise painted on the roll-up doors.

Visitors can expect to encounter Pighead, Billy the puppet on a red tricycle and other characters from the Saw franchise in the maze.

Magic Mountain debuted a Saw X maze during Fright Fest 2023 and brought it back for Six Flags Scream Break in the spring.
