This fall, Safety Not Guaranteed–a musical composed by Guster’s Ryan Miller–is set to make its debut at the esteemed Brooklyn Academy of Music, or BAM. Set to run at the Harvey Theater from Sept. 17-Oct. 20, with direction from Lee Sunday Evans and a book by Nick Blaemire, this new stage adaptation arrives as part of an effort to cultivate experimental and ambitious artistry at the venue. The BAM adaptation of the hit sci-fi comedy follows the 2012 film, written by Derek Connolly and directed by Colin Trevorrow, which was in turn inspired by a viral classified ad.

This announcement comes amid a busy year for Miller and Guster as a whole. The band released Ooh La La–its first record in nearly five years–back in May via Ocho Mule, and has since celebrated with the We Also Have Eras tour: An eclectic, theatrical, cabaret-style performance heavy on mise en scène and Guster history. The group explained in a CBS Saturday Morning interview that it aims to “tell the story of their life through song,” recounting three decades of pioneering indie.

While the We Also Have Eras tour resumes on June 29 in Shelburne, Vt., fans can also look forward to Guster’s ongoing celebration of its 1999 breakthrough album Lost and Gone Forever, which comprises two special performances of the project in its entirety at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 27 and Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Aug. 1, the latter of which will feature accompaniment from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and a special guest appearance from Kevin Morby.

In the midst of its summer sprint, the band will host its very own On The Ocean Festival in Portland, Maine, with headlining performances on Aug. 9, 10 and 11, offering another run through Lost and Gone Forever on the final date.
