Here are the content creators sharing updates from the Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention kicks off today in Chicago, and with it, the convention is leaning into social media by having content creators attend the political event.

New this year, there will be a Creator Platform, similar to a Network Platform used by traditional media, where content creators will be able to create videos and social media posts straight from the convention floor.

The Creator Platform is a designated area on the convention floor for the credentialed creators to be able to engage with what is happening at the convention. In addition to being able to provide updates for their viewers on social media, they will also be able to interview attendees and prominent members of the Democratic Party, similar to traditional media.

Typically those who watch the conventions on TV through broadcast stations will see Network Platforms during the telecast. These are areas where journalists and commentators provide live updates to viewers with the convention floor behind them.

It’s the first time the convention has given press credentials to content creators, and it is a sign of changing times in the media landscape. A 2023 Pew Research Center study found that 43% of TikTok users regularly get their news from there, up from 22% of users who got their news from the video-focused app in 2020.

Last month the Republican National Convention hosted 70 content creators who were given full credentials to make videos to help the Republican Party reach younger voters.

The convention committee said it will host over 200 content creators at the DNC in Chicago this week and will additionally provide hundreds more social media creators with remote access to cover the convention.
