Here’s a guide to navigating LA Fleet Week traffic in downtown San Pedro

With tens of thousands of people expected to attend LA Fleet Week from over Memorial Day weekend, the streets surrounding the Los Angeles Harbor, will be packed with foot and vehicle traffic.

Fortunately, organizers for Fleet Week, which will run from Friday to Monday, May 24-27, have provided myriad transportation and parking options to help everyone navigate the area.

Here is a guide to getting around LA Fleet Week:

Directions

The Fleet Week Expo, the primary location for the military celebration, will be in front of the Battleship Iowa, 250 S. Harbor Blvd.,in San Pedro.

If you are traveling north to San Pedro, here are the general directions:

Head north on the 5 Freeway to the northbound 405 Freeway.
Use exit 37 to merge onto the southbound 110 Freeway toward San Pedro.
Take exit 1A to merge onto northbound State Route 47 toward Vincent Thomas Bridge/Terminal Island/Long Beach.
Exit at South Harbor Boulevard and continue on that street.
Proceed to the LA Fleet Week parking lots.

If you are traveling south to San Pedro, the general directions are:

Head south on the 405 Freeway and merge onto the southbound 110 Freeway toward San Pedro.
Use exit 1A to merge onto northbound State Route 47 toward Vincent Thomas Bridge/Terminal Island/Long Beach.
Exit at South Harbor Boulevard and continue on that street.
Proceed to LA Fleet Week parking lots.

Parking

Free parking is available at a remote lot on 22nd Street between Samson Way and Miner Street. You can take a shuttle to and from the event site.

If you are planning to park downtown, prices will vary from free to per-hour fares and will require you to walk to the event site. Available parking areas include:

Port of Los Angeles Public lot (Sixth Street and Harbor Boulevard).
Centre Street Lofts parking structure (Centre and Seventh streets, open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.).
Topaz Building parking structure (entrance on Palos Verdes Street between Sixth and Fifth streets).
Mesa and Sixth lot (396 W. Sixth St.).
Fifth and Pacific lot (445 W. Fifth St.).
Seventh and Pacific lot (460 W. Seventh St.).
Pacific and Seventh lot (528 W. Seventh St.).
11th and Pacific lot (529 11th St.).
Maritime Museum lot (Sixth and Harbor).
West Harbor lot (1150 S. Harbor Blvd.).
Fifth and Mesa streets.
Harbor Boulevard across from the Battleship Iowa.

Shuttles and trolleys

Shuttles and trolleys will operate throughout the day to connect visitors to parking lots, the Fleet Week Expo, ship tours, downtown stores and restaurants. A shuttle map is available on the LA Fleet Week website for reference.

Shuttle services are available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all public LA Fleet Week days, Friday to Monday. Trolleys will run from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Other options

LA Fleet Week recommends taking the LA Metro Silver Line to the Battleship USS Iowa Museum. If you do so, you will save $2 on regular museum admission prices at the ticket booth; you must show a valid TAP card at the museum entrance.

Shared ride services can also be routed to the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, 425 S. Palos Verdes St. From there, walk down Fifth Street to the expo in front of Battleship Iowa.
