Cea mai mare navă de croazieră din lume, Icon of the Seas, deținută de compania Royal Caribbean, a plecat sâmbătă din portul Miami, statul american Florida, pentru călătoria sa inaugurală de șapte zile în Caraibe, relatează AFP, citată de News.ro.
Vasul a fost botezat marți cu ajutorul legendei fotbalului Lionel Messi, care a apăsat pe un buton care a trimis o sticlă de şampanie în fuselaj.
Icon of the Seas, înmatriculată în Bahamas, are o lungime de 365 de metri, 20 de punţi, 2.805 cabine şi 40 de restaurante.
Vasul poate găzdui 5.610 pasageri şi 2.350 de membri ai echipajului, este împărțită în opt cartiere diferite și dispune de şapte piscine, nouă jacuzzi şi o cascadă de 17 metri înălţime.
În călătoria sa inaugurală în Caraibe, va vizita Basseterre, capitala statului Saint Kitts şi Nevis, înainte de a se îndrepta spre Charlotte Amélie, în Insulele Virgine americane, apoi spre insula privată Coco Cay din Bahamas, înainte de a se întoarce la Miami.

Este prima navă a gigantului american de croaziere propulsată cu gaz natural lichefiat (GNL), un combustibil fosil pe care industria îl prezintă ca o alternativă mai curată la păcura grea, dar care eliberează metan, un puternic gaz cu efect de seră.
Nava este dotată cu un sistem de transformare a deşeurilor în energie şi un altul de reciclare a apei de la bord, precizează Royal Caribbean, promiţând să reducă impactul acestui tip de navă asupra mediului.
Nava cântărește 250.800 de tone, de cinci ori mai mare decât Titanicul, și a fost construită la şantierul naval Turku din Finlanda.
