Two months after performing “Bad Romance” at a concert in Cincinnati, Chappell Roan has earned the approval of none other than Mother Monster herself. After a video of the 26-year-old singer performing the 2009 smash onstage started recirculating on TikTok, Lady Gaga shared some kind words in the comments.
In the clip, Roan — wearing a sparkling black leotard with a fire design on the abdomen — nails the English-French pre-chorus in Gaga’s famous anthem before diving into the main hook, flipping her mane of copper curls over her shoulder. “I love Chappell 🖤🖤🖤🖤,” the 13-time Grammy winner commented on the post.
“Bad Romance” remains one of Gaga’s most defining hits to date, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in ’09. Fifteen years later, Roan is fresh off of earning her second and third entries on the chart, with “Red Wine Supernova” and “Hot to Go!” debuting at Nos. 75 and 80, respectively. They follow her latest single, “Good Luck Babe!,” which reached No. 24 earlier this year.
Gaga is just the latest A-lister to voice support for the Missouri native amid her meteoric rise to stardom. Following Roan’s headline-making set at the 2024 Governors Ball — during which she performed in full Statue of Liberty costume, complete with head-to-toe green body paint — Ariana Grande professed her love for the younger singer on Instagram Stories.
“I really ♡ @chappellroan,” she wrote, sharing a Wicked meme and swapping in Roan for Cynthia Erivo’s similarly green character in the upcoming films.
