Liam Gallagher “blown away” by ‘Definitely Maybe’ live production: “It’s like they’ve taken a photo of what’s in my mind”

Liam Gallagher has revealed that he is “blown away” by the live production of his upcoming ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour, and described the stage as being almost identical to the image he had envisioned.

The former Oasis frontman is due to play the Britpop band’s 1994 debut album in full across the UK and Ireland next month to mark its 30th anniversary. The dates will include four gigs at The O2 in London and the new Co-Op Live arena in Manchester, as well as further stops in Sheffield, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin.

Now, with just days to go before the opening night, the singer has shared insight on the live production for the tour, and described it as being like “a photo of what’s in my mind”.

“Production rehearsals tday for DM shenanigans CMON,” Gallagher wrote on X/Twitter yesterday (May 27). In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Absolutely blown away by the set it’s full on Psychedelic it’s like they’ve taken a photo of what’s in my mind”.

In response to the first update, a fan got in touch with Gallagher, and asked how the track ‘Up In The Sky’ was sounding during the rehearsals – to which the singer responded with one word: “crucial”.

The hints about the production of the forthcoming shows arrive following Liam confirming to fans that he was “gonna go for it visually” back in October. “It’s gonna be mega trust me,” he shared at the time, also sharing that he wants to “bring the cover alive on stage”.

“Flamingos, bowls of lasagna that I’m gonna dive head first in naked cmon,” he added, presumably referring to the plastic flamingo placed atop the fireplace on the album cover.

Since then, the Britpop star has also revealed that he doesn’t plan to play the tracklist from ‘Definitely Maybe’ in chronological order, as it wouldn’t make sense to have some of the biggest hits from the LP arriving midway through the setlist.

“Mixed up,” he told a fan who put the question forward to him on X. “Can’t be singing ‘Live Forever’ [four] songs into the set.”

The aforementioned single is actually third on the LP’s tracklist, which begins with ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ – a past opener at Gallagher’s solo concerts. Other songs on the album include ‘Shakermaker’, ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and ‘Slide Away’.

When pressed on whether he’d be airing any of his solo material on the tour, Gallagher said: “Not a drop”. He also named ‘I Will Believe’ – the B-side to Oasis’ debut single ‘Supersonic’ – as the track he’s most excited to perform live.

As well as the aforementioned shows across the UK, Gallagher is also scheduled to showcase the record in its entirety when he headlines Reading & Leeds 2024 in August.

Previously, he said that brother and former-bandmate Noel Gallagher turned down the offer to take part in the upcoming dates. However, ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead will be joining him on the tour following his solo projects and previous cancer scare. He’s since been given the all-clear.

Although not taking part in the tour, Noel did announce a 30th anniversary reissue of their classic debut album, featuring previously unheard recordings and outtakes. A teaser for the collection led to speculation about a potential reunion earlier this month.

During an interview with NME in April, Gallagher said an Oasis return was “not happening” around the ‘Definitely Maybe’ anniversary. He was asked if fans could expect a comeback to mark the three-decade milestone of ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ in 2025.

“I don’t know – I don’t think that’s happening either,” he responded. ‘It’s not happening at this moment in time.”

Meanwhile, Oasis recently shared an early live recording of ‘Supersonic’ to celebrate the single’s 30th anniversary.
