In February, Real Estate returned with its sixth full-length album Daniel. Arriving as the indie rock trailblazers’ first offering since 2021’s Half a Human, the 11-track project introduced fans to a bold new era for the group defined by pop precision, retrospective alt-rock and some twangy Music City studio magic courtesy of producer Daniel Tashian; the Nashville, Tenn. artist’s impact on Real Estate’s revival was so indelible, it would be immortalized as the new project’s namesake. To celebrate its release, the band staged a “Daniels-only” show at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Union Pool, which opened and closed with a cover of Elton John’s 1973 hit “Daniel.”
Today, Sept. 24, Real Estate has released a studio treatment of its cover to all streaming platforms. After becoming a certified setlist staple on the band’s summer tour and receiving a stamp of approval from Sir John himself–who called the live debut “really beautiful” on an episode of Rocket Hour with Real Estate–the track lands today as a loving tribute to the classic. The band’s fresh take also stands as a testament to its meticulously crafted new sound, which soars with a chorus of perfectly placed acoustic and light, drifting electric guitars.
Real Estate’s new single coincides with the outset of its European tour, which will take the band to Paris, Glasgow, London, Copenhagen, Berlin and six further stops through Oct. 6.
