Man charged in fatal Albuquerque hit and run to stay behind bars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An 18-year-old facing a vehicular homicide charge in connection to a deadly hit and run last month will be held behind bars through his trial. Jorge Ceniceros told police he was the man who hit Melissa Powers back on September 5 near Trumbull, just north of Phil Chacon Park. Powers later died from her injuries.

The state asked Judge Courtney Weaks to keep him locked up through trial saying last year he was convicted for drag racing and was going 63 miles per hour in a residential area. Ceniceros’ lawyer argued that the court could take his license away and that would be enough to protect the city. Judge Weaks disagreed and granted the state’s motion.
