NMDOT issues warning about campaign signs on state rights of way

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – With primary season in full swing, the New Mexico Department of Transportation is remaining political candidates and vendors that signs are not allowed along any state-maintained right of way. The department says doing so is a violation of state law and maintenance crews will remove all signs regardless of message or political affiliation.

Inappropriately placed signs can also be a safety risk for pedestrians, drivers, and bicyclists. If someone’s sign goes missing, NMDOT says to contact their local office to see if they have it. NMDOT cannot guarantee the signs will still be in their original condition.
