Oak Park holds Memorial Day ceremony, opens pools over extended weekend

Memorial Day weekend in Oak Park saw the opening of pools and hosting of a tribute ceremony commemorating fallen military personnel, with Village President Vicki Scaman was among the speakers.

The Memorial Day ceremony was held Monday at the Peace Triumphant Memorial in Scoville Park.

Other community participation at the solemn event included remarks from Illinois Senate President Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, and the police department’s Honor Guard Unit.

Also with the three-day weekend comes the season opening of local pools. The summer season kicked off Saturday at Rehm Pool, while the Ridgeland Common Pool opened Tuesday.
