The singer-songwriter, who recently teamed up with Becky Hill for new single ‘True Colours’, gave an update on her third album to podcaster Adam Buxton.

Speaking at the Crossed Wires Podcast Festival, Rebecca Lucy Taylor was asked how close the record was to being completed, to which she responded: “I’ve sort of got it, sitting with it, thinking about it and then in September/October we are going to go back and finish it.”

She also went on to confirm that, “there will be something by the end of the year” in terms of the release of new material.

In addition, Taylor said she already plans to make another solo album.

She added: “I’m always psychologically an album ahead, the next album I want to do a bit more orchestral and stand still a bit more. I want to sing more, I want to be Chris Martin.”

Taylor also said that at some point she wants to a do a record with Richard Hawley. “My other little dream is that I’m going to do another album still living in the same Self Esteem world but then I wanna do an album with Richard Hawley. Remember like that Alison Krauss and Robert Plant?, I wanna do something like that.”

Taylor previously teamed up with Hawley for Peggy Lee‘‘s ‘Fever’ and Nancy Sinatra‘s ‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ during the opening night of his Sheffield Leadmill residency in 2022.

Last year, he also told NME that he would up for collaborating with the singer-songwriter in the future.

“Rebecca is amazing. You can throw anything at her and she’ll just perform it so well – like she’s been singing it for years,” Hawley said. “We keep talking about doing something together. I’d like it; I think we would be interesting. We get on great and she’s a right laugh. I admire her guts to take on the mantle that she does. To do it so fearlessly is quite a rare thing these days. I admire her very much.”

Speaking about her forthcoming album, Taylor also previously told NME: “I’m still whinging about loads of other stuff. ‘Prioritise Pleasure’ was only the start of the penny dropping. I’m still this hyper-emotional person, I find it all a bit hard and that’s where I’ll always write from. You know how Ed Sheeran just sings about loving his girlfriend? One day I’ll just be able to do that. For now, I’ve just got to fight injustice at every corner. It’s difficult, but I’ll do it!”
