EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Sunland Park Fire found another body in the desert on Monday, June 10, the department said.
Sunland Park Fire assisted Dona Ana County Fire Rescue, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of the Medical Investigator with a body recovery in the desert off the Pete Domenici Highway and New Mexico Highway 9. The call came in out at about 2:25 p.m.
According to the U.S. Border Patrol, agents in the El Paso Sector, which includes New Mexico, have rescued 669 individuals and recorded 74 deaths. Those numbers were as of Friday, June 7.
This continues a busy period for Sunland Park Fire.
Just before midnight on Saturday, a body was found in the desert area off Gila Drive and Carrizo Drive.
On Friday, Sunland Park firefighters rescued three people with heat-related illnesses or injuries in two separate incidents.
Last Wednesday, two bodies were found off Mile Marker 6 on McNutt Road.
