Temperatures continue to climb as the state remain mostly dry

New Mexico is in for another hot afternoon. But not the hottest we can expect for the week.

Almost the entirety of New Mexico will see highs today in the 90’s. With parts of eastern and southern New Mexico reaching the triple-digits. However, this will not be the hottest afternoon we experience this week. Temperatures will reach their peak on Wednesday.

Rain coming later this afternoon and into the evening will be lackluster at best. The North and Northwest have the best chances of seeing rain today. The state will be dry over the southern and central areas. Rain chances increase for the west and the Sacramento mountains tomorrow.

By Thursday a backdoor cold front arrives and bring moisture to the eastern part of the state. This will increase the rain chances across the north and east. It will also decrease temperatures across the eastern part of the state.

The heavier rain coming Thursday and Friday will increase the risk of burn scar flooding in the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar. The risk for flooding in Ruidoso remains low for the rest of the week, but is still possible.
