Top 5 Coolcation Destinations for Romanians looking to cool off during the heatwave

As Romania swelters under the heatwave, many Romanians are in search of a “coolcation” – a vacation designed specifically to escape the heat.

According to a survey earlier this year, Romanians’ main reason for traveling is rest and relaxation (true for 76% of respondents), followed by experiencing new cultures (50%). Escaping the current heatwave might as well be a good enough reason to want to fly away this summer.

While on vacation, most Romanians prefer doing nothing and simply enjoying what the local life brings (53%) and connecting with nature (39%).  A tech travel platform recommended five refreshing destinations with plenty of things to do, and already popular among Romanians for spring break.

Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm is a haven of cool breezes, beautiful archipelagos, and rich cultural experiences.

Tour the historic Vasa Museum, wander through Gamla Stan (the old town), and enjoy the lush spaces of Djurgården.

Reykjavik, Iceland

As it is closer to the Arctic Circle than to Europe, Reykjavik is perfect for escaping the heat, and usually popular among Romanians in August. Discover the wonders of the Golden Circle, swim in the waters of the Blue Lagoon, and, depending on the season, experience the midnight sun or the northern lights.

Edinburgh, Scotland

The Scottish city combines a cooler climate with historical charm and vibrant cultural life. Explore the iconic Edinburgh Castle, hike on Arthur’s Seat, and stroll through the city’s numerous museums and galleries.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Enjoy moderate summer temperatures and a lively cultural scene in Copenhagen, and a favorite for Romanians’ spring breaks – the most popular of the cities included in this list. Visit the historic Tivoli Gardens, take a scenic boat tour of the canals, and explore the colorful Nyhavn district.

Helsinki, Finland

The Finnish capital offers a unique blend of modernity and tradition, along with a refreshing climate. Stroll through the Design District, visit the historic Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, and unwind in one of the city’s numerous saunas.

These destinations not only promise a break from the heat but also provide enriching cultural experiences and stunning landscapes. With flights from Romania to these cities readily available, now is the perfect time to plan your coolcation.
