Noi ploi torenţiale sunt aşteptate să lovească Brazilia, în timp ce naţiunea sud-americană se confruntă cu urmările mortale ale fenomenelor meteo extreme de săptămâna trecută, care au făcut ca întregi cartiere să se afle sub ape, potrivit CNN, citată de News.ro.
Ploile abundente şi inundaţiile au ucis cel puţin 107 persoane în regiunea Rio Grande do Sul a Braziliei, de săptămâna trecută, a anunţat agenţia pentru apărarea civilă a statului.
Circa 1.476.000 de persoane au fost afectate, potrivit apărării civile, iar cel puţin 754 de oameni au fost răniţi şi circa 164.000 strămutaţi. Cel puţin 134 de persoane sunt încă date dispărute.
Inundaţiile catastrofale au fost însoţite de revolte sociale, cu cel puţin 47 de persoane arestate pentru jafuri şi alte infracţiuni, în mijlocul haosului. Şase din cei arestaţi sunt suspectaţi că au comis abuzuri sexuale în adăposturi pentru oamenii ale căror case au fost afectate de inundaţii, potrivit publicaţiei de stat Agencia Brasil.
Însă oficialii le cer celor care au fost salvaţi din inundaţii să nu se întoarcă la casele lor, avertizând că sunt prognozate noi ploi.

De vineri până duminică, sunt aşteptate cantităţi importante de ploi între estul şi centru-nordul statului Rio Grande do Sul, în unele zone fiind prognozate cantităţi de 100 mm, a anunţat Institutul naţional de Meteorologie INMET.
„Este important de subliniat că aceste cantităţi de ploaie prognozate pot provoca noi distrugeri în zonele deja afectate”, a arătat INMET.
Cantităţile record de precipitaţii din regiune au fost asociate cu El Niño, un fenomen climatic natural care încălzeşte apele din Pacific şi tinde să aducă ploi abundente în sudul Braziliei. Încălzirea globală pe termen lung, cauzată în principal de folosirea combustibililor fosili, a exacerbat, de asemenea, fenomenele meteo extreme din regiune.
Cum multe dintre comunicaţiile din sudul Braziliei au fost puse la pământ în urma furtunilor, CEO-ul SpaceX Elon Musk a anunţat, joi, într-o postare pe X, că Starlink va dona 1.000 de terminale de internet pentru serviciile de urgenţă din regiune.
Potrivit guvernului din Rio Grande do Sul, va fi nevoie de echivalentul a 3,7 miliarde de dolari pentru reconstrucţie.
Cele mai recente furtuni au provocat inundaţii şi în unele părţi din ţara învecinată Uruguay, ducând la strămutarea a 1.347 de persoane, în timp ce mii de oameni nu au electricitate, a anunţat sistemul naţional de urgenţă.
