We’re on TikTok: Introducing the SoCal Local

At the end of 2023, Southern California News Group launched a new TikTok, Instagram and YouTube account, the SoCal Local.

The SoCal Local is led by Audience Engagement Producer, Carolyn Burt, and focuses on highlighting the coverage from our award winning reporters at all 11 of our publications across Los Angeles County, Orange County and the Inland Empire through social video.

By creating the SoCal Local we aim to share our reporting in bite sized video breakdowns.

Through our videos we’ve highlighted entertainment news, such as providing a behind-the-scenes look at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as well as a rundown of the new menu items available at Disneyland’s food festivals. We’ve also provided news affecting Southern California residents, such as storm coverage, how the Wayfarer Chapel has been affected by land movement and rare orcas sightings off the California coast. Additionally, we’ve updated our audience on Southern California college news, such as the ongoing Pro-Palestine protests across USC, UCLA, UC Irvine and other campuses in the region.

The way in which individuals are reading and absorbing the news is constantly changing. Younger generations have grown up in a world of smartphones and constant access to technology. We recognize the importance of reporting news on social media platforms they already know and use.

We hope to be a reliable source on TikTok, connecting with audiences that might not have discovered us through our print publications, websites or other social media platforms. This account is also a chance for us to engage with our followers, answer questions and receive news tips directly from the community.

To stay up to date with the latest news in Southern California, follow the SoCal Local on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
