Mandisa died due to class III obesity, a medical condition characterized by a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher.
According to People Magazine, the cause of death was confirmed in the autopsy report of the singer. The autopsy report also stated that Mandisa “was last known alive approximately three weeks” before her sudden passing on April 18.

Confirming her death to People Magazine on April 19, a source said, “We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased.” He further said, “At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Mandisa shot to fame after her run on American Idol in 2005. Though she did not win the competition, she proved her caliber by clenching the number-one spot on the Christian albums chart with her first project.
