Before joining AEW, Rhea Ripley’s husband, Buddy Matthews, also worked in WWE under the name Buddy Murphy. He achieved success in WWE, holding the Cruiserweight Championship and participating in major storylines with wrestlers like Seth Rollins, Rey Mysterio, and Dominik Mysterio.
In June 2021, Murphy was released from his WWE contract. He then transitioned to the independent wrestling circuit for the remainder of the year. Finally, in February 2022, he made the jump to WWE’s rival promotion, AEW. Debuting and aligning himself with Malakai Black and Brody King, he formed the House of Black stable. He has since become a former AEW World Trios Champion with the faction.
