Wizards of Waverly Place Spin-off Reveals First Look Photos, Title

Disney has revealed the first photos for the upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off, along with confirming that the upcoming series will be titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The project will be executive-produced by Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who will also reprise their roles as Alex and Justin Russo.

What’s the Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off about, and who else is in the cast?

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place catches up with an adult Justin Russo. He has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his family, which includes Giada, Roman, and Milo. But when Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home, looking for help, Justin comes to realize that he has to drudge up his old magic skills and serve as a mentor to a wizard-in-training. He goes back to his roots all while juggling his everyday life and, also somehow ensuring the future of the Wizard World.

The photos preview both Gomez and David Henrie reprising their roles as Alex and Justin Russo, with Gomez set to recur. But it also introduces lead Billie, portrayed by Janice LeAnn Brown. There’s also the Russo family, played by Mimi Gianopulos (Giada Russo), Alkaio Thiele (Roman Russo), and Max Matenko (Milo Russo).

An exact date has not been revealed. However, the series is slated to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers, along with Gary Marsh, Gomez, and Henrie. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.

The original Wizards of Waverly Place, created by Todd J. Greenwald, ran for four seasons on the Disney Channel from 2007 to 2012. The series revolved around Gomez’s Alex Russo, a teenage wizard starting her magic training alongside her siblings Justin and Max (Jake T. Austin), who all have magical abilities. It won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2010. It also garnered two additional Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2009 and 2012.
