Wrong-way driver killed in North Chicago crash

A motorist driving the wrong way on Illinois Route 41 died early Sunday when their car ran into another vehicle, according to Lake County authorities.

The coroner’s office had not yet released the identity of the person Monday.

The collision happened at around 2:25 a.m. in the 3600 block of Skokie Highway in North Chicago.

The motorist, who was the sole occupant of their vehicle, was driving in the wrong lane when their vehicle collided with another car. The two people in the other car were transported to Lake Forest Hospital and were reported in stable condition, according to North Chicago officials.

Both vehicles suffered heavy damage, authorities said. The highway was closed for the investigation by North Chicago police. Firefighters from Waukegan and Lake Forest responded to the crash to assist.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Major Crash Team.
