1 dead after fatal crash in northeast Albuquerque, APD investigating

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a crash that happened late Wednesday night at the intersection of Lomas Blvd and Pennsylvania St.

According to APD the crash involved two vehicles a 2021 white Jeep and a 2013 silver Chevrolet SUV. APD states the preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV was heading westbound on Lomas and was in the left turning bay. It attempted to make a left turn to proceed northbound on Pennsylvania St. According to the driver of the SUV, he had a green light and a green arrow when they attempted to turn left. However, when he was turning he was struck by the Jeep.

Police say after the collision the Jeep hit a telephone pole and rolled over onto its driver’s side. According to APD, the driver of the Jeep had to be extracted from the vehicle but died on the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital with minor injuries.

According to APD, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Police are still investigating the scene.
