Albuquerque mom sentenced to 6 years in prison for child abuse

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman who allowed a convicted child abuser to care for her child received her sentence on Monday. In 2022, a family brought Stromy Torres’ child to the hospital with a skull fracture and severe bruising. The family said Torres told them the child had hit his head on a toy and the bruising was from being carried.

Police found Torres’ boyfriend, Steven Gallegos, who had a previous child abuse conviction, had been watching the child when she was not home. She later admitted to police she lied to the family.

Torres recently took a plea deal agreeing to plead guilty to two counts of abuse and other drug charges. Judge Joseph Montaño sentenced her to six years in the Department of Corrections.
