Dawes has shared the second single from its forthcoming record, Oh Brother, titled “Still Strangers Sometimes.” Set to arrive Oct. 11 on Dead Ringers via Secretly Canadian Distribution, Oh Brother marks the group’s ninth studio LP and boasts production from Dawes frontmen and brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith as well as Mike Viola. Just as Dawes released a music video to accompany “House Parties” earlier this summer, the duo ensemble have once again shared a visual project for “Still Strangers Sometimes,” out now.

Oh Brother and “House Parties” are the product of a new era for the band, ushered in by the departure of two bandmates, previously. Recorded live with guitar from Taylor and Griffin on drums, the nine-track record spans genres and mediums and serves as a testament to the group’s storied history and capacity for growth. Of the record, Taylor explained, “It feels like we’re reborn in a way, and I mean that with so, so much love and gratitude to everyone we’ve ever played with before! This is what it means to be a lifer, to have iterations. It means having phases and chapters, and this is a very clear delineation as to the beginning of a new one. So Oh Brother feels like a ninth record, but it also feels like a first record.”

“Still Strangers Sometimes” captures this idea of rebirth: complete with the band’s signature rhythmic backbone and sincere lyrics, the track is distinctly Dawes, but in a new arena. “It’s a song about the spiritual investigation of long-term relationships,” says Taylor. “How a part of ourselves will be unknowable forever, despite our deep connections,” he adds, perhaps alluding to the track’s chorus, which repeats: “’Cause even when your body gets that close to mine / We’re still strangers sometimes.” The video compiles clips of smiling fans singing parts of the unreleased track, choosing to be a part of something larger than themselves before knowing exactly what it is–just as the Goldsmiths did creating Oh Brother.

Following the October release of Oh Brother, Dawes is set to hit the road for a sprawling tour of the same name with indie-rock outfit Winnetka Bowling League. The Oh Brother tour–which kicks off Nov. 7 at Knoxville, Tenn.’s Mill & Mine–comes after numerous top-billed summer appearances, including Newport Folk Festival, Terrapin Crossroads Presents: Sunday Daydream Vol. 4 and an Aug. 29 set at Iowa City’s Hancher Auditorium with Cory Wong and Reyna Tropical. Notable stops on the Oh Brother tour include Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Chicago’s Salt Shed, Roadrunner in Boston and San Francisco’s The Fillmore. Dawes will then close out the year with a show on Dec. 15 at Austin City Limits at the Moody Theater. Of note, the Oh Brother tour picks up again on April 9 with a show at the Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock, N.Y.

“Still Strangers Sometimes” is out now, and fans can pre-order Oh Brother, with an exclusive split-color vinyl also available here. Read on for a full Oh Brother tracklist and a complete list of Dawes tour dates, with tickets and more information available at dawestheband.com/tour.
