Dr. Dog took to its social channels on Monday, June 10 to announce two “warm up” shows ahead of its highly anticipated summer staging at Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. These preparatory performances will bring the newly re-energized indie staple to The Queen in Wilmington, Del. on July 11 and Denver’s Gothic Theatre on July 17. Both engagements will be solo headline shows and comprise two sets each, “for extra warming up.”

The beloved indie outfit’s latest dispatch follows the November 2023 announcement of its Red Rocks performance, set for July 18, 2024. For this monumental return to the spotlight, the band will be joined by noted Deadhead Eric D. Johnson’s 20-year indie-rock project Fruit Bats. Prior to this trio of dates, the band will take the stage at Philadelphia’s The Mann Center on July 13 for a hometown reunion, alongside renowned singer-songwriter Kevin Morby and recently reunited indie pathbreakers The Teeth. This will be the band’s first live series since 2021, when it announced its retirement from touring–though, as is now apparent, it was never suggested that it was dissolving entirely.

Immediately following the group’s Red Rocks performance, Dr. Dog will drop its long-awaited 11th studio album, Dr. Dog. The self-titled project, slated to release on July 19via We Buy Gold Records, will include 11 tracks and will be the band’s first full-length offering in six years. As a first taste of this enticing return to form, the group has shared two preview singles, “Talk Is Cheap” and “Tell Your Friends,” ahead of the project’s arrival in full. Dr. Dog marks a new era of creative collaboration and expression for the group, steering into an eclectic workflow encouraging uninhibited expression from all members of the sextet. The triumphant novelty of this approach–recorded with “no rehearsal and no overdubs,” per lead guitarist Scott McMicken–is readily apparent on the album’s two lead tracks.

Artist presale for the July 11 and 18 warm-up shows will begin on Wednesday, June 12 at 10 a.m. local time; fans can register for the first offer here. Remaining tickets will be opened for a general on-sale on June 14 at 10 a.m. local time. For more information on Dr. Dog’s imminent record and supporting tour dates, visit drdogmusic.com.
