My Morning Jacket Unveil 4K Restoration of Acclaimed Concert Film ‘Okonokos’

RMAG news

Nearly 20 years after its initial release, My Morning Jacket’s renowned 2006 concert film Okonokos is back, this time in 4K, alongside a limited number of theatrical screenings. Originally recorded during a two-evening stint at San Francisco staple The Fillmore in November of 2005 during the band’s Z tour, the two-hour performance recalls a pivotal moment in the rock group’s lengthy career. Now mixed in 5.1 audio, standout songs like “Wordless Chorus,” “Mahgeetah,” “Golden” and “Gideon” are clearer than ever.

The film is also more immersive than ever, as distributor Abramorama partnered with ATO Records to host a limited run of theatrical screenings across the globe, beginning with a premiere at San Francisco’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on May 26-31. The film’s re-release promises a moment both novel and nostalgic for My Morning Jacket, long vaunted for its transformative live shows. “It’s wild how much technology has changed since we shot OKONOKOS and released it on DVD so many moons ago,” offers vocalist Jim James. “We hope you have as much fun as we did jumping back into its world again!” James adds.

The San Francisco screening dates align with My Morning Jacket’s highly-anticipated slate of no-repeat San Francisco headline shows on May 27, 28, 30 and 31 at The Fillmore Auditorium. These special shows on the West Coast precede My Morning Jacket’s appearances alongside Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats on their co-headline Eye To Eye Tour this summer, which will bring the groups up and down the East Coast from Sept. 10 to Sept. 28. My Morning Jacket are also slated for a number of festival appearances through the summer, including BottleRock Napa Valley, The Capitol Groove, Rose On The River, Park City Summit, and a hometown performance at Louisville, Ky.’s Bourbon & Beyond on Sept. 22.
