TOHAJIILEE, N.M. (KRQE) – Construction has begun to bring Navajo Nation water to To’hajiilee. The groundbreaking for the 7.5-mile pipeline connecting To’hajilee to the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility’s system was held on Wednesday.
Right now, the reservation has six community water wells with only one functioning but the new pipeline will now help bring fresh water owned by the Navajo Nation to the community. “It is the realization of a dream held for the better part of 20 years and counting for the residents and leaders of To’hajiilee to someday have access to reliable, high-quality drinking water,” said Eric Olivas, Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.
The pipeline will run from the water authority’s reservoir near the I-40 and Atrisco Vista exit to To’hajiilee. Officials say the project will be completed over the next 18 months.
