Weller has previously spoken out about his admiration for Gallagher. In a section dedicated to Noel Gallagher with an NME feature for The High Flying Birds from 2011, Weller hailed the former Oasis guitarist’s ability to ‘write an anthem’ – especially since he’s gone solo.

“I’ve liked everything he’s done solo,” Weller told NME Gold. “I don’t really need to talk about what a great songwriter he is, because everyone knows that. But, for me, he’s got better.

“I think his songs now have got a different sort of depth to them; lyrically as well. Especially the new one. I really like the words on it. He’s got his own thing together.”

As well as praising his abilities on guitar, bass and drums, Weller hailed his ‘magpie’ approach to music.

Weller added: “There’s some fucking great songs on the first two albums, some big tunes, and he is the master as well of that kind of anthem. And writing anthems is not an easy thing to do. And he really knows his shit on that.

Speaking to NME about his new album ‘On Sunset’ and more back on 2020, Weller responded to Liam Gallagher‘s claims that Noel and Weller held ‘secret meetings’ about Noel going solo, with Liam branding Weller “full of shit”.

Addressing Liam’s issues with Weller reportedly giving Noel advice on a solo career, he said: “Listen – to put the record straight, I would never, ever give Noel Gallagher advice.

“What do you say to somebody who’s just sold 50 million fucking records? ‘Oh, I know what you should do…’ So that’s not true.”

In other news, Gallagher recently joined The Black Keys on stage at their show in London last night (May 7).
