“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises,” George Cheeks, CBS President and CEO, told Deadline in June 2023. “This season’s number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe… It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch. And so I’m like, ‘you guys, congratulations, you got your back nine. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones.”

In January 2024, several outlets reported that the network wanted to launch a spin-off series through a back-door pilot on the main show. Alert the Sheriff (Season 2 Episode 6) aired on April 12, 2024, and introduces Mickey Fox, portrayed by Morena Baccarin. CBS officially announced Sheriff Country in May 2024, and it is slated to premiere sometime in the 2025-2026 season.
