Video: Florida woman leads officers on chase after fleeing traffic stop

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman is in custody after leading authorities on a chase after fleeing from a traffic stop in St. Augustine last week, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

On May 29, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Alexandria Mason, who had an active felony warrant out of Citrus County, according to the sheriff’s office. Mason allegedly failed to appear in Citrus County court over possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

During the traffic stop, Mason can be seen on body camera footage telling deputies, “You’re not allowed to stop me.” She is then seen driving away after a deputy tells her she has an active felony warrant.

The video, included at the top of this story, then shows deputies scrambling into their vehicles to pursue Mason.

The Facebook post said Mason drove onto I-95 and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) joined the sheriff’s office in pursuit.

Aerial footage from the sheriff’s office Aviation Unit shows FHP successfully using a PIT maneuver to end the chase and take Mason into custody.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said one trooper suffered significant hand injuries and a citizen’s vehicle was hit during the chase, though the citizen was not injured.

Investigators said a stolen firearm, drug paraphernalia, and several controlled substances were inside Mason’s vehicle.

Mason was arrested by FHP and charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, armed possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and DUI with property damage.

The sheriff’s office will also charge Mason with DUI, refusal to comply with a lawful order, resisting a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and aggravated fleeing and eluding, according to the Facebook post.

Mason was booked into the Duval County Jail.
