Zach Neto homers again as Angels outlast Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tyler Anderson became the first Angels left-hander to win 10 games in a season since Hector Santiago in 2016 as they defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-5, on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

The Angels, breaking out offensively for the first time since Aug. 11, took a 7-2 lead to the bottom of the seventh inning. But Anderson surrendered four consecutive hits as the Royals rallied for three quick runs. Hunter Strickland came on to limit the damage and preserve a two-run advantage.

Anderson (10-11) had been rolling through six innings. The Angels snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth when Zach Neto blasted a 424-foot homer, his second in two nights.

The Angels added run-scoring hits by Logan O’Hoppe and Anthony Rendon and then tacked on two more in the seventh. But the Royals came back as Anderson wound up surrendering 12 hits.

The Angels (54-72) snapped a three-game losing streak, while the Royals (70-56) saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.

Kansas City starter Cole Ragans worked five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) while falling to 10-8.
