Casey Donovan is taking on one of the most iconic roles ever performed by Whoopi Goldberg, depicting Deloris Van Cartier in the Sister Act musical. The divine musical comedy lands in Sydney in August and Melbourne in November.

“Although I never thought I would see the day when I put on a habit, I’m so incredibly excited to be joining Sister Act and to be playing the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier, played by the iconic Whoopi Goldberg in the much-loved films,” Donovan commented in a press release.

She continued, “Growing up, Sister Act was one of the movies that I watched on repeat. I love the film and am truly honoured to be part of such an uplifting, joyful, fun and feel-good production featuring the brilliant original music by multiple Tony Award-winning composer Alan Menken.”

Donovan will be accompanied by Genevieve Lemon, who takes on the role of Mother Superior.

In addition to Menken providing the original music for the Sister Act musical, the creative team for the show includes Glenn Slater (Lyrics), Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (Book), Bill Buckhurst (Director), Alistair David (Choreographer), Morgan Large (Set & Costume Design), Stephen Brooker (Musical Supervision), Tim Mitchell (Lighting Design) and Tom Marshall (Sound Design).
