0.5% tax on expensive houses and cars delayed until September 30

Romanian Finance Minister Marcel Boloş announced that the emergency ordinance on digitalization measures adopted by the Government on Tuesday also includes the ordinance on large properties and wealth, with the luxury tax. The 0.5% tax, which was due on April 30, has been postponed until September 30.

The deadline from April 30 to September 30 for the 0.5% tax for buildings with a value of over 2.5 million lei and for means of transport with a value of over 375,000 lei. The Minister of Finance added that this postponement was made “so that the information system relating to large properties can allow access to information on the taxable value of the buildings”.

“The third category of measures is the one related to large properties, large fortunes, whose due date was for April 30, we postponed and it was approved the postponement of this deadline until September 30, so that the information system regarding for large properties to be able to allow access to information on the taxable value of the buildings”, stated Marcel Boloş, at the end of Tuesday’s meeting of the Executive.

He also said that, “as is known, for buildings worth more than 2.5 million lei and means of transport with a value of more than 375,000 lei, the 0.5% tax was a tax due on April 30 , and in this context, in order to have access to these categories of information that I mentioned, but also to be able to continue what the computer system necessary for this type of tax means, the deadline has been postponed until September 30, 2024″.
