ABQ BioPark hosting e-waste recycling event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With Earth Day coming up the Albuquerque BioPark is teaming up with ACTenviro and New Mexico Computer Recyclers for an e-waste recycling event.

The event will be Sunday, April 21 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Tingley Beach. People are encouraged to bring old cell phones, cables, keyboards and other electronics. Most electronic items will be accepted at the event, but TV’s vacuums, microwaves, refrigerators and freezers will not be accepted. The collected items will be recycled responsibly. The BioPark says natural habitats are being destroyed to mine for coltan, a material cell phones and other electronics contain. When recycled, the coltan can be reused to make other electronics.

Anyone who brings an item to recycle at the e-waste event will receive a ticket for a free carousel ride during their next visit to the zoo. For more information, click here.
