Airbnb opens replica ‘Up’ house for stays in Abiquiu

RIO ARRIBA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Airbnb is bringing a one-of-a-kind experience to New Mexico with the installation of its Up House, a real-life replica of Carl and Ellie’s home from the 2009 Disney/Pixar film “Up.” The detailed recreation of the animated home is located in Abiquiu and is open for stays starting in June.

The home is part of Airbnb’s Icons series, which features “extraordinary experiences” based around icons in music, film, sports, and more. The unveiling of Carl and Ellie’s house is in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the release of “Up” and in anticipation of the release of “Inside Out 2” on June 14.

“I don’t always like visitors, but I guess it’s pretty nice to have them now that it’s just me and Dug. So, come stay in my cozy home I made with my dear Ellie. My greatest adventures have happened here, and I learned that the best ones are always with someone you love, so bring your pals to kickstart your very own Adventure Book and watch as my house drifts off before you depart.”

Airbnb’s “Drift off in the Up house” listing

The home’s host, Carl Fredricksen, is known for his adventures, and even had something to say about Abiquiu in his Airbnb listing:

“This is my first time going to Abiquiu, New Mexico, but I hear it’s the perfect place to head out on wilderness adventures. It’s far away from the big city, so hopefully you’ll get some peace and quiet, and maybe I’ll be able to leave my hearing aid on for once. It’s going to be a great setting to explore nature, and who knows, you might even see a “Snipe”. Please enjoy your stay, but don’t blame me if the house lifts off and floats to Paradise Falls. If that happens, you’re on your own!”

Guests can request to book the Airbnb, but a selection process will determine which select few get to stay in the Up House. The Airbnb can hold up to four guests. Requests to book a stay close May 14; to request a stay or to find out more, click here.
