Ajith Kumar’s action drama Billa is set for a grand re-release in theaters. Originally released on December 14, 2007, the film marked a milestone in the actor’s career and emerged as a major blockbuster. The announcement has been creating a lot of abuzz among fans of the actor.
Directed by Vishnuvardhan, Billa is a remake of the 1978 Hindi film Don, which starred Amitabh Bachchan. Alongside Ajith, the cast includes Prabhu, Rahman, Nayanthara, Namitha, and others. In the 2021 film, Ajith plays a dual role — an underworld don as well as a friendly, ordinary person. The plot thickens when the don gets killed, and a police officer recruits a look-alike to unearth secrets about their gang.
With a successful run of 175 days, Billa was declared a box office hit and was also selected for screening at the 61st Cannes Film Festival. Funded with a budget of $1.7 million, the makers released it at over 200 screens in Tamil Nadu and 50 screens overseas. According to IMDb, Billa has grossed around $964,432 worldwide.
When is Ajith Kumar’s Billa re-releasing?
After nearly 17 years, Billa is set to return to theaters on May 1, 2024. This coincides with the actor’s 53rd birthday. Aravind Suresh Kumar and Gnanabharathi of GB Entertainment intend to screen the film in 150 theaters in Tamil Nadu.
In addition, Ajith Kumar is also gearing up for the re-release of Mankatha on his birthday. Interestingly, audiences in France will get to enjoy the film a day earlier as it returns to theaters on April 30, 2024. For fans who have previously watched the film, they will be able to relive their theater experience soon.
Furthermore, Ajith is involved in a new project titled Good Bad Ugly, which is under the direction of Adhik Ravichandran.
