Patru persoane au fost ucise, între care doi copii, şi alte trei au fost rănite, în urma unui atac cu cuţitul în Queens, New York. Atacul a avut loc duminică dimineață, în jurul orei locală 05:10, în cartierul Far Rockaway. Victimele ucise sunt o fată de 11 ani, un băiat de 12 ani, o femeie de 44 de ani și un bărbat în vârstă de 30 de ani. Ele au fost găsite într-o locuinţă care fusese incendiată de agresor înainte să iasă din casă, a spus poliția.
Polițiștii au fost alertați de o tânără care „a spus că vărul ei îi ucide pe membrii familiei”, a anunțat Jeffrey Maddrey, șeful Departamentului de Poliție din New York, într-o conferință de presă.
Ajunși la fața locului, polițiștii au văzut un bărbat ieșind cu bagaje, pe o alee. Când poliţiştii au încercat să vorbească cu bărbatul, acesta a scos un cuţit, înjunghiindu-l pe unul dintre poliţişti în gât și piept, iar pe al doilea în cap. Ofițerii au fost duși la un spital cu răni care nu le pun viața în pericol.
„Ar fi putut să lase cu ușurință această persoană să treacă pe lângă ei cu bagajele. În schimb, s-au oprit, au pus câteva întrebări, au încercat să obțină informații. Din păcate, s-au întâlnit chiar cu făptașul, care s-a dus direct la ei”, a spus Maddrey, care i-a felicitat pe polițiști.
Unul dintre poliţişti a reuşit să scoată arma şi l-a împuşcat pe agresor. Acesta a fost transportat la spital, dar a fost declarat mort.

După ce pompierii au stins focul din locuință, autoritățile au găsit în interior celelalte trei persoane ucise: băiatul de 12 ani, femeia de 44 și bărbatul de 30 de ani.
O femeie în vârstă de 61 de ani a fost, de asemenea, înjunghiată și a fost dusă la spital în stare critică, a anunțat Joseph Kenny, șeful detectivilor Poliției din New York.
Suspectul a fost identificat ca fiind un rezident în Bronx, în vârstă de 38 de ani, care avea antecedente. El a mai fost arestat pentru un incident de violență domestică, potrivit autorităților americane.
