Clouds may obscure partial solar eclipse as storm approaches New Mexico

A storm is approaching from the west, bringing more widespread cloud coverage this afternoon. Unfortunately this is blocking a lot of the sun and not making for the best solar eclipse viewing conditions – however, much of the cloud coverage is high and thin, so we should be able to see through it. A few isolated showers are possible this afternoon across the Four Corners before a backdoor front arrives later tonight.

The backdoor cold front will not only cool temperatures down into Tuesday, but also bring a gusty east canyon wind to the Albuquerque metro. We’ll be waking up tomorrow morning with gusts 40-50 mph, slowly dying down into the afternoon. Temperatures will be 5-10° cooler than today. A few isolated metro showers are possible, but an area of very heavy rain and storms will set up across east/southeastern New Mexico with heavy snow over the Sacramento Mountains. This will persist through the afternoon before quickly drying out into Tuesday evening.

Plenty of sunshine will persist Wednesday as temperatures quickly rebound by 10-20°. Calm winds will continue through the Thursday with a warming trend picking up. Friday will likely be one of the warmest days, if not the warmest day, so far this year across the state as winds begin to pick up Friday afternoon. It will remain breezy to windy this weekend, so make sure to secure any loose outdoor objects. If you can, Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to get out and enjoy some lovely spring weather.
