Coroner rules suicide in death of 17-year-old who shot herself in Industry Sheriff’s Station

The death of a 17-year-old girl who fatally shot herself inside the lobby of the Industry Sheriff’s Station over the weekend was declared a suicide, the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner said on Tuesday, March 26.

Johanna Gonzalez entered the station’s lobby shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday and grabbed a deputy’s holstered gun before shooting herself in the head, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to entering the lobby, deputies responded to a family disturbance at Gonzalez’s foster family home in La Puente about one mile away. The 17-year-old, who left before deputies arrived, was said to be experiencing a mental-health crisis, according to officials.
