SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Forest Service is addressing a wildfire that was discovered Friday, April 26, 2024. The fire began east of Santa Fe in the Santa Fe National Forest.
The Forest Service is calling the fire the “Dry Gulch Wildfire” and says hotshot crews and other firefighters were on the scene by Friday afternoon. The Santa Fe National Forest interagency helicopter was also dropping water on Friday. The Forest Service says there was lightning in the area on Thursday night, so that may have sparked the fire, although as of Friday, the official cause had not yet been determined.

The Forest Service said weather on the weekend of April 27 should help firefighting efforts. But as of Friday afternoon, the weather was creeping with a “moderate rate of spread potential.”
