Amazon Prime Video has renewed Cross for a second season despite the fact that the first season does not yet have a premiere date.

According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video has renewed Cross, which is based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, for a second season.

Starring Aldis Hodge as the titular character, the first season of Cross does not yet have a premiere date. A trailer for the series has also not yet been released.

The first season of Cross also stars Ryan Eggold, Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford, and Siobhan Murphy.

Deadline reports that Wes Chatham (Ahsoka), Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo), and Jeanine Mason (Upload) will all join the cast of the second season. “Prime Video declined to comment, but all three are believed to have one-year deals,” the article states.

What else do we know about Cross?

“Cross is a twisted thriller about Alex Cross (Hodge), a detective and forensic psychologist, uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers,” Deadline’s description of the series reads.

Ben Watkins serves as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner on Cross. Hodge is producing the series, which comes from Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television. Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, Craig Siebels, Patterson, Bill Robinson, Patrick Santa, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost also serve as executive producers.

There have been several Alex Cross adaptations prior to the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series. Morgan Freeman played the titular character in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and 2001’s Along Came a Spider, the former of which was directed by Gary Fleder and the latter by Lee Tamahori.

Tyler Perry then starred in a reboot, 2012’s Alex Cross, that was directed by Rob Cohen. Cohen’s film was intended to kickstart a franchise; however, a planned sequel was canceled after the movie only made $34.6 million at the global box office.

Cross does not yet have a premiere date from Amazon Prime Video.
