David Popovici Secures Wins in 100m and 200m Freestyle at Antwerp Diamond Speedo

Romanian swimmer David Popovici, gearing up for the 2024 Olympic Games, dominated the 100m and 200m freestyle events at an international competition held in Antwerp over the weekend. Despite only athletes from Belgium and the Netherlands participating, Popovici emerged victorious.

In the 100m freestyle, Popovici set the fastest time in the heats (48.57 seconds) and clinched the final with 48.34 seconds, beating Dutch swimmers Sean Niewold (48.89 seconds) and Stan Pijnenburg (49.97 seconds).

Similarly, in the 200m freestyle heats, Popovici clocked the quickest time at 1 minute 51.13 seconds. He then secured victory in the final with a time of 1 minute 46.51 seconds, ahead of Dutch swimmers Koen Marsman (1 minute 51.13 seconds) and Efe Ongoren (1 minute 51.44 seconds).

A former European champion in the 100m and 200m freestyle, Popovici is set to compete in the upcoming National Swimming Championships for seniors, youth, and juniors at the Olympic pool in Otopeni from April 17th to April 21st.
