This summer, Woodstock, N.Y.’s historic Bearsville Theater will return to its former glory.

Calling from the heart of the Catskill mountains, the legendary 60-year venue will welcome iconic artists and seas of fans once more under the new direction of Dayglo Presents. The live entertainment and media company, run by esteemed promoter Peter Shapiro, will revitalize Bearsville’s programming with a guiding reverence for its legacy, bridging its historical import with present innovators to create live experiences tailor-made for new and returning audiences alike. This new era for the Hudson Valley haven begins on June 1 with an inaugural performance from Blue Note label president Don Was and The Pan-Detroit Ensemble.

Originally opened in the ‘60s by Albert Grossman, the Bearsville Center has long been home for a revolving community of musicians, artists, creatives and cultural pathbreakers. Beyond the auratic power of its hallowed halls, the space is well-known for its exceptional sound quality, boasting an acoustically unparalleled auditorium with timeless charm, constructed from an 18th-century ‘Dutch’ barn by architect and acoustician John Storyk, creator of Jimi Hendrix’s famed Electric Lady Studios.

The Woodstock staple will returns to the scene under the eye of Shapiro, who currently owns and operates establishments like The Capitol Theatre and the Brooklyn Bowl with a focus on serving and renewing passionate fan communities. Supporting this endeavor is an all-star team, including General Manager Frank Bango and Talent Buyer Mike Campbell.

“I have led the creation of new concepts and built great venues from scratch like Brooklyn Bowl, but I’ve also been fortunate to breathe new life into some historic venues, like Wetlands and The Capitol Theatre,” Shapiro shares in a release on his new venture. “The Bearsville Theater has a deep and amazing history that I am excited to preserve and lift, as we put our touch on a new era for this legendary Woodstock icon. We want to thank Lizzie Vann for her passion and dedication to Bearsville since she bought and lovingly restored the property in 2019. We appreciate her trust in us and are looking forward to a long working relationship.”

Bango echoes Shapiro’s reflections and underscores the proprietor’s idealistic commitments, stating, “Through my conversations with Pete and Chris Moody (Dayglo Presents), I could feel the passion and heart that they were going to be bringing to this legendary space. Pete’s reputation is far-reaching and highly esteemed. When I coupled that with the opportunity to help reignite the musical flame in Woodstock and the offer to provide hospitality to world class musicians in a revered building, I quickly realized I’d be an idiot not to accept their offer.  In the short time I’ve been on board, I’ve been welcomed by a stupendous team of hard working, passionate music lovers that understand the importance music plays in bringing people together and building community. In this day and age, I find that an irresistible combination.”

Following the new Bearsville Theater’s official launch at the start of summer, the venue will offer a dazzling array of high-profile performances through the end of the year, including appearances by Guster, Dawes, Guided By Voices, Drive-By Truckers, Mdou Moctar, The Beths, The Mountain Goats, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Karina Rykman, Dresden Dolls, The Zombies, The Jayhawks. Further performances are still to be announced. View the theater’s complete programming schedule to date below.
