Where the series Dead Boy Detectives was filmed takes a bit of sleuthing. The first season of the popular supernatural mystery show on Netflix (it was originally meant to be on Max) takes place in Porn Townsend, Washington. This is an actual city, so the answer might seem to be a given. But that’s actually not quite right, as the list of filming locations is not as obvious. Here’s a breakdown of where Dead Boy Detectives was shot in season one.
What are the Dead Boy Detectives filming locations?
The majority of Dead Boy Detectives was filmed in Canada, specifically Vancouver, British Columbia, along with a small stint in London.
As revealed by Netflix’s Tudum, the series was mainly shot during the winter months of Vancouver. The city is colloquially known as “Hollywood North” given the tax breaks and lower production costs to film there, particularly when compared to the usual costs in the States. Those who live in or have visited Vancouver may recognize various landmarks in the show, including Sheringham Point Lighthouse or Orpheum Theater, in addition to the neighborhoods of Steveston, Fort Langley and New Westminster.
That said, the first episode of the series was partially filmed on location at Westminster Bridge, primarily to make a point that the detective agency run by Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) are actually in London. In an interview with Town & Country, Rexstrew further revealed that he started filming the show with “two days in London” and that the introductory chase scene in the pilot episode was shot at the Greenwich Naval Museum. After that, he flew out to Vancouver, where the rest of the show was shot from November 2022 to April 2023.
It’s a bit unclear whether any of the series was actually filmed in Port Townsend itself. If a second season is officially greenlit, it would seem as though a fair portion of the show will take place in London, so we may see more scenes shot there than in the possible future.
