Docs: Las Cruces man arrested after beating partner with prosthetic leg, driving off bridge

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A Las Cruces man is facing several charges after beating his partner with various objects including a prosthetic leg, and driving off a bridge in an attempt to kill himself and his partner, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.

Court documents say Benjamin Warren Corsey, 38 is facing five counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on a household member, two counts of battery on a household member, aggravated battery against a household member strangulation, and homicide by vehicle reckless attempt.

Court documents say Corsey and his long-term partner were at a family member’s house on Tuesday, April 9 in Las Cruces.

Corsey and his boyfriend began to argue at the home and decided to leave.

Both of the men got into a pickup truck and while driving Corsey began to accuse his boyfriend of cheating.

Court documents say Corsey stopped the pickup truck in the middle of the road and began to beat his boyfriend with his fists and also strangled him.

Corsey’s boyfriend told police that he hit Corsey back in self-defense.

Corsey then grabbed his partner’s cane and began to strike him multiple times, according to court documents.

Corsey also grabbed a “large chain with a lock” and began striking his partner multiple times, according to court documents.

Corsey’s boyfriend grabbed his prosthetic leg and struck Corsey with it in self-defense, according to court documents.

Corsey then accelerated the pickup truck and told his boyfriend that he was going to crash and kill them both, according to court documents.

Corsey then drove the pickup truck off the bridge of Elks Drive and South of Rio Bravo Way, according to court documents. The truck landed approximately 50 feet from the bridge in a ditch.

After the crash, Corsey kicked his partner out of the truck and began to strike him again with the large chain and lock, according to court documents.

Corsey also grabbed his partner’s prosthetic leg and began to beat him with it, according to court documents.

Corsey’s partner told police that he felt like he was going to die and that he felt helpless and could not defend himself as he was laying on the ground.

Corsey’s partner had substantial injuries that were consistent with his statements that were given to police, according to court documents.

Corsey also talked to police after the incident and said that his partner began to hit him with his hands while they were driving.

Corsey told police that his partner beat him with the large chain, cane, and prosthetic leg. However, court documents state that Corsey’s injuries were not consistent with his statements.

Corsey was released from the hospital and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with no bond.

Corsey’s partner was flown out to a local hospital as a result of his injuries.
