Environmental campaign in Rosia Montana

Locals and friends of Roșia Montana are meeting on Sunday, May 12, at 10:00 a.m., in the Central Square, for the first of the five campaigns to green the banks of the waters in the area this year.

The campaign carried out together with the organizers of the Roșia Montană Marathon, is part of the “Clean Waters in Roșia Montană” project, conducted by Association 37, in partnership with the Roșia Montană World Heritage Association, the InfomART Association and the SNK Association, in close collaboration with the Simion Secondary School Balint, which aims to find practical solutions to local environmental problems over the next 10 months.

During Sunday’s meeting, the project team will present the activities that will take place in Roșia Montană – biodiversity and music camps, ecology and local history, an environment-themed mural art workshop with the artist Dan Perjovschi, a creative writing workshop with the writer Iulia Iordan and a collection of stories about the waters of Roșia, but also activities to clean the banks of the waters that will involve children in a playful, interactive and creative way.

There will also be training sessions and strengthening the capacity of teachers to convey information related to natural sciences, environment and ecology, through the development of tools for classroom work.

With the support of experts in ecology and waste management from the Babeș-Bolyai University and the Ecoteca Association, organizers will promote among the community examples of good practices in the field of environmental protection and we will jointly organize actions to collect abandoned waste on the banks of the Anghel, Brazi and Țarina rivers, as well as on the courses of Foiesului and Roșia.

Five collection islands will also be set up in four fractions, located at key points in the village, and for the identification and reporting of environmental problems, such as water pollution or improper storage of domestic and industrial waste, using the Ecovoce application, developed by specialists UBB based on a participatory research in the communities of Valea Ariesului. All these actions are a first step for creating a community alliance between institutions, organizations, informal leaders, locals for a better management of the waste resulting from the activities in the area.
