Characterized by authenticity, diversity and style, EUROPAfest is part of the elite of European festivals, contributing with each edition to the promotion of a positive image of Romania throughout the world. The only festival in Europe that brings together 4 musical genres – jazz | blues | pop | classic returns in 2024 with exceptional concerts. Under the slogan It’s all about live quality music!, EUROPAfest presents, between July 5 and 14, artists from over 15 countries – Europe and special guests from the USA, Australia, China or Japan.
The launch of EUROPAfest 2024, an event held since 2005 under the High Patronage of Her Majesty Margareta and His Royal Highness Prince Radu, took place on April 4, through the traditional Elisabeta Palace Evening event dedicated to EUROPAfest. The organizers of the festival, along with partners and supporters of the event, were invited to the Elisabeta Palace.
The 9 days of the festival bring a full agenda – concerts, international jazz competition, recitals, jam sessions, autograph sessions, workshops, so that everything culminates with the Gala Concert. EUROPAfest events take place in different locations in Bucharest and Sinaia to enable parallel events.
The director of the festival, Luigi Gageos, declares: “When we started, it was difficult to organize an international festival in a country like Romania, both because of the economic context, but also because of the mentality and musical education. Things didn’t get much easier along the way either, but I feel like I made a noticeable change. Today we have a loyal audience, we have people who come year after year to EUROPAfest, who wait for the summer to meet artists from all corners of the world. We stubbornly stayed on the market, despite all the difficulties, and now, on the threshold of the 31st edition, we can say that it was worth it.”
A special place in the festival agenda is occupied by the Bucharest International Jazz Competition, ranked by the BBC among the top 3 jazz competitions in Europe. Introduced on the EUROPAfest agenda in 2007, the event has come of age, inviting the public to discover new concepts and the best jazz musicians of the moment, “creme de la creme” of the new generation from all over the world. The competition promises the public quality jazz, evenings of originality, vitality, surprises and new combinations.
