School days, school day. Dear old Golden Rule days.

Yesterday, April 24, Goose headed back to class–well, not literally. No tests were taken during Wednesday’s appearances at Wilton High School in Wilton, Conn.; rather, a pair of concerts were delivered in two separate phases, students and, later, faculty, to mark the educational institution’s Festival of Arts and Languages. During the secondary set, the band dusted off Ray Parker Jr.’s original, “Ghostbuster,” for the first time since 2018, ending a 365-show gap.

Rick Mirarotonda, Peter Anspach, and Trevor Weekz represented Wilton High School alumni and were joined by bandmates Jeff Arevalo and newcomer Cotter Ellis. The first of two frames was played for the kids, peaking young interest with staples, “Arcadia,” “Creatures,” “Yeti,” and “Hot Tea.” Also included was an “Animals” opener and the second-ever cover of Post Malone’s “Circles,” a fitting choice given the audience.

Later on Wednesday evening, the band returned to (some of) their former stomping grounds for a faculty show consisting of 11 songs, starting with “Thatch” and running into “Silver Rising,” “California Magic,” and a sped-up “Echo of a Rose.” Staple “Hungersite” was played before the bust out of “Ghostbusters,” which brought the song’s live performance count up to four total plays, three of which occurred in 2018.

Coming out of their choice cover, Goose dipped into “Everything Must Go,” followed by “Dripfield” and “This Old Sea.” For their final song, the quintet delivered their first “The Empress of Organos” of 2024, stemming back to a prior Dec. 2023 play that came before Wednesday’s return. With a feel-good gig under their belts, the band will return to its touring schedule at the end of May, participating in Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie, followed by summer tour dates. Read more
