A New Jersey earthquake rattled much of New York City and the surrounding Metropolitan area on Friday morning (April 5). While Big Apple residents searched for answers as to why the rare natural disaster struck the Northeast, Ice Spice stepped in to jokingly take the blame for shifting the tectonic plates.

The Bronx native put her thick physique at fault. “My bad for the earthquake yall u kno this a– be clappin,” she wrote, tongue-in-cheek.

Fans had fun at Ice Spice’s viral booty-quake revelation and filled her replies on X (As of press time, her tweet has over 120,000 likes). “Might be the realest s— i ever heard,” one wrote.

Others continued to respond to Ice Spice with a clip of her twerking in a pool. The “Princess Diana” rapper replied to one of the videos alleging that Triller leaked it from her drafts.

Per ABC7, a 4.8 registered earthquake hit near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey around 10:23 a.m. ET on Friday, which is about 45 miles west of New York City. Shockwaves shook the East Coast from Washington, D.C. to Maine. Fortunately, there were no reports of death or major damage.

“Our preliminary reports do not indicate major life safety or infrastructure issues from the earthquake. We are performing thorough inspections of critical areas,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.

Early estimates figure that 42 million people felt the earthquake in some capacity, but perhaps nobody capitalized on the moment more than Ice Spice thanks to her witty humor and self-awareness.

On the music side, Ice Spice is heading toward the release of her Y2K debut album later this year. The project remains without a release date, but the 24-year-old revealed she finished recording it in March.

“I think this is some of my best work,” she told Billboard of the LP while also hinting that “it’s not going to be too long — it’s going to be sweet and to the point.”
