[1] Family asks for help after father killed in Albuquerque hit-and-run – The daughter of a man who was killed in a hit and run earlier this year is speaking out. Police say 67-year-old David Newman was driving his moped around 2:30 a.m. on February 5, heading south on Tramway near Menaul. Police say a white 2018 or 2020 Honda Accord hit him and then took off. They said the suspected Honda would have significant damage to the front end and be missing the bottom driver’s side front bumper and fog light. Anyone with helpful information can call Crime Stoppers, who’s offering up to a $2,500 reward for any tips. 

[2] Why do police think a 2015 murder case is connected to a recent killing? – Saturday, Albuquerque Police arrested 45-year-old Theodore Toney for shooting and killing Kenneth Ellis in, what they believe is, a case of retaliation. APD says officers responded to a dance at Elks Lodge on San Pedro early Saturday morning. Police said surveillance footage shows Ellis going to the DJ booth when he was shot in the back of the head. APD said the shooter in the video matched the description of Toney. Police believe Toney may have shot Ellis in retaliation for him testifying in a murder trial where a relative of Toney was convicted for killing Ellis’ uncle in 2015. Toney is facing a first-degree murder charge with a firearm enhancement

[3] Warmer and cloudier weather for partial solar eclipse – If you are hoping to view the partial solar eclipse, it is not a full on bust, but clouds will create less than perfect viewing conditions. The maximum eclipse will be around 12:30 p.m. in New Mexico, and you will need to view it with solar eclipse glasses and pinhole projectors in order to see the shadow of the moon in front of the sun. There will be slight dimming of the sky, but the sky will not become dark. Temperatures will be warmer Monday, with lighter winds than over the weekend. The next storm system will bring in rain and snow showers to central and eastern New Mexico on Tuesday.

[4] Two porcupines released back into the Bosque after months of rehabilitation – Two porcupines were recently returned to the Bosque after spending time in rehabilitation at the New Mexico Wildlife Center. In May of 2023, New Mexico Wildlife Center rehabilitation manager Stephanie Lindsell began working with a baby porcupine who had been found hurt in the Bosque in Bernalillo after being attacked by a dog. Two months later a female baby porcupine was brought to the wildlife center after being found wondering around the Albuquerque Bosque. After months of rehab, both porcupines were released into the wild.

[5] ABQ concert brand performs special concert – A special spring concert played at Eldorado High School on Sunday. The Albuquerque concert band performance was the last performance for Band Director John Sanks, who has been with the band for 25 years. He will be stepping off the podium down into the tuba section. The concert also included a solo by high school clarinet player Brandon Turney was the recipient of the Bruce Croken Scholarship, valued at $1,500.
